Truth? What truth?

Romney seems to think
That facts don't really matter
Just repeat the lies

He keeps insisting
That Obama has relaxed
Work rules for welfare

But this is not true
The rules have not changed at all
But Mitt keeps it up

When the press challenge
Romney, he says they're biased

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Doesn't Romney get it?

Why won't Romney let
Us see his old tax returns
What's he got to hide?

Back in '94
He challenged Ted Kennedy
To release his own

Kennedy refused
So did Mitt, which was their right
Kept their privacy

But ten years ago
He ran for Mass. governor
He claimed he lived there

Although he mostly
Seemed to be out in Utah
Tax returns give proof?

Romney insisted
He was a Mass resident
Taxes should prove it

But he would not let
Anybody check them out
"Take my word for it?"

The press discovered
later that he'd had to file
to amend his tax

He incorrectly
had not filed residency
in Massachusetts

Still he refused to
Release his returns to us
But asked us to trust

How can we depend
On his statements about them
When he lied before?

Running for office
Sometimes means you sacrifice
Your own privacy

If he wants us to
Trust him he must prove to us
That we can do so

A wise man once said
On a much different subject
"Trust but verify."

Mitt's IRA "problem"

Romney's IRA
one hundred million dollars
Taxed like salaries

This includes money
Which would be taxed much lower
If not in IRA

So he pays more tax
Because he used IRA
He should have just saved

People who struggle
To put food on the table
Might like this problem.

Click Clack Moo

Useful idiots
According to the right wing
Indoctrinate kids

Deep thinkers, they say Click Clack Moo
Is union propaganda
Sneaking into schools

Not only that, but they
Charge that the book is against
Creationism

Why? Because the cows
Are portrayed as equals of
The human beings

I think these great minds
Talking about this on air
Need to get a life

In America, they haven't spoken it for years

In Puerto Rico
Rick Santorum visited
For the primary

Spoke with reporters
About possible statehood
For Puerto Rico

Rick is all for it
But only if they adopt
English officially

He seems to believe
That the law forces each state
To speak just English

This is not the case
And besides, if that were true
What about Texas

Climate Change denial based on Genesis?

Senator Inhofe
A climate change denier
Based on Genesis?

He argues simply
Genesis eight, twenty-two
Guarantees climate

"While the earth remains
Seedtime, harvest, cold and heat,
Seasons, days and night"

Will not ever cease"
Inhofe thinks this guarantees
That climate won't change

He ignores context
In this passage of Scripture
The flood has ended

God is promising
Not to destroy the whole earth
Complete with rainbow

There is no promise
That we cannot screw it up
And change the seasons

Even Inhofe must
Recognize bad stuff happens
Even in Scripture

In one case, Jacob
And his entire family
Must go to Egypt

A drought in the land
Changes their local climate
The result?  Famine

Such cases abound
Even though God made an oath
After the rainbow

Lesson in Contraception

According to Rush
If you use contraception
It's by the sex act

So in other words
Only a "slut" needs as much
as Sandra Fluke claimed

Apparently Rush
And his ilk have yet to learn
Just how The Pill works

Listen carefully
You must take The Pill each day
Even celibate

Perhaps he only
Knows about prophylactics
Or he's ignorant

How can people still
Still let an ignoramus
Influence their thoughts?

He has no children
He has been married four times
Total impotence?

The First Amendment

Congress shall make no law
Abridging freedom of speech
Or faith or the press

With an exception
Secret Service protection
Means no protesting

If this becomes law
If protesters don't realize
A bigwig is there

They can be punished
For peaceably assembling
Where the bigwig is

Are politicians
Really so frightened of us
The people they serve?

Congress shall make no law...

JFK believed
In church-state separation
in the Bill of Rights

Santorum says this
Just makes him want to vomit
As he makes me, too

Constitutional Supremacy Clause

The Constitution
Makes Federal law supreme
Over all the states

Some don't remember
And want to nullify laws
That they do not like

Haven't we done this
Back before the Civil War?
War destroyed Dixie

Nullification
Is a path to disunion
And then to chaos

higher education--a left wing strategy?

Is college a plot
Rick Santorum says it is
left-wing brainwashing

Was the GI Bill
Intended as a means to
Secularism?

Or maybe college
Gives us productive workers
Not fooled by Rick's lies

No wonder Rick's scared
With better education
He'd be out of work!

Liar Liar Pants on Fire

Politicians lie
On a regular basis
GOP debate

In Arizona
Romney, Gingrich, Santorum
Vied for the biggest

Obamacare won't
As Santorum claimed last night
Boost the deficit

Romney suggested
Government workers make more
Than private sector

Research says this is false
Private sector employees
Make more than public

Romney is also
Running from his own record
On contraception

The national press
Has been down on Obama
Liberal press much?

Santorum and the Constitution

The oath of office
requires that the President
protect and defend

the Constitution
including the amendments
and the bill of rights

Is Rick Santorum
qualified to take the oath
since he seems to think

"God's" law overrides
the protection provided
by the amendments?

This is frightening
Unless "protect and defend"
really means "ignore"

stupidity

Santorum argues
Prenatal testing is bad
Immoral parents

He must not know that
Sarah Palin's last baby
Has a birth defect

Trig has Down Syndrome
Palin had prenatal tests
And knew in advance

She was like most moms
Not having an abortion
She prepared instead

Sarah Palin as
An argument against fools
An oxymoron

If Rick Santorum
Receives the GOP nod
Who will vote for him?

Only bigger fools,
Bigots, misogynists,
I sincerely hope

His conception of
The American voter
Has just miscarried

Contraception wars

Congressman Issa
Heard expert testimony
On contraception

The "experts" were male
Issa allowed only them
An all male hearing

Women excluded
Just like a secret clubhouse
When we were all kids

"Plays well with others"
A kindergarten watchword
But not for Issa

"No girls are allowed"
In Issa's secret clubhouse
He gets to make laws?

Florida results

Mitt wins Florida
Nearly a majority
Pretty impressive

Gingrich, Paul, and Santorum

Or will they drop out?

A few caucuses and then

Women and Santorum's campaign

Aide to Santorum:
"Girls cannot be President"
What a big surprise

Maybe he never
Graduated out of his
Element'ry school?

Welcome!

I was sitting at lunch, thinking randomly, as I often do, and I thought it might be fun to start posting political commentary in the form of haiku.  In all honesty, my haiku undoubtedly do violence to the proper Japanese form, but it's still a fun way to make a point.

I look forward to seeing your responses!
